Di Maria edges Premier League players on shirt sales

Manchester United's record summer signing Angel Di Maria may be having a miserable form on the pitch but definitely not in the stores. According to retailers Sports Direct, the Argentina international is still enjoying a high level of popularity if judged by shirt sales.

Shirts bearing his name are requested more than any other player in the Premier League and his tally of 9.59 per cent places him way ahead of Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, with the Chilean playmaker in second place with 3.8 per cent.

But is that enough to cheer a Di Maria that has struggled for form since his £59.7million summer switch from Real Madrid? The figures however should give some form of life to the winger's Old Trafford career because it means he still has fans believing.

Chelsea's Diego Costa is the third most-requested player with 2.27 per cent ahead of Di Maria's United team-mated David de Gea on 2.16 per cent.

Fifth place is occupied by Belgium and Chelsea star Eden Hazard is followed by United pair Wayne Rooney and Radamel Falcao - who is also struggling to adjust to life in the Premier League.
